Here is what we offer:

  • Our Jr. Learn To Sail program is for young people between the ages of 8-17. We offer three 5-day camps & one 2-day camp between the months of June & August that teaches basic sailing, racing, sportsmanship, and water safety.

  • Our Adult Learn To Sail program is for people ages 18 and older. The program teaches sound fundamental sailing skills in both small boats and keelboats while promoting safety in all aspects of sailing.

All classes are taught by experienced, certified US Sailing instructors.

All Learn to Sail graduates can purchase their 1st year of NSA membership for 1/2 price!

Junior Learn To Sail

Our Junior Sailing program is open to kids between the ages of 8 and 17, who have the desire to learn water safety, sailboat handling, sailboat racing, and sportsmanship. The camp meets for 5 days. Boats are provided.

    • Fees: $175 for members, $200 for non-members.

  • Session 4 - Race Prep: August 1st to 2nd

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Place: Sailboat Cove, Cheney Lake

Adult Learn To Sail

The NSA adult sailing program teaches sound fundamental sailing skills in both small sailboats and keelboats while promoting safety education in all aspects of sailing. This program is open to ages 18 and older and boats are provided.

  • Session 1: June 20, 22, 23, 2024

  • Session 2: July 11, 13, 14, 2024

  • Session 3: August 15, 17, 18, 2024

  • Session 4: TBD (Basic Keelboat only. $75 for members and $125 for nonmembers)

Fees: $195 for members and $250 for non-members.

Enroll with a friend or family member and receive 1/2 price off the second person’s enrollment fee.

Discount code to be emailed after the first order has been placed.

Place: Sailboat Cove, Cheney Lake

Basic Sailing classes start on Thursday night from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. This is an introductory 3-hour classroom session (located in Wichita) followed by two full days of sailing instruction at Cheney Lake on Saturday and Sunday. You will sail on Sunfish sailboats You will also participate in several brief sessions of on-shore demonstrations and skill training.

Basic Sailing Class: 

  • Basic boat handling skills

  • Sailing terminology

  • Knot tying

  • Sailing theory

  • Water and small craft safety

  • Uses US Sailing Association textbook, “Learn Sailing Right – Beginning Sailing”

Basic Keelboat class: 

  • One-day advanced sailing course

  • Teaches all aspects of keelboat handling

  • Uses US Sailing Association textbook, "Basic Keelboat"

  • Participation for this class requires previous sailing experience or completion of NSA basic sailing course.

This program was developed in conjunction with the U.S. Sailing Association and is taught by USSA certified instructors.

Students who complete Basic Sailing or Basic Keelboat and join the NSA within one year of graduation will receive a significant discount on fees and annual dues for the first year of membership.

Adult Learn to Sail Program Cancellation Policy

Please understand that our class sizes are limited to maximize the sailing learning experience for every student.  If you must cancel your class registration, we will gladly give you a 100% reimbursement if you cancel your registration 30 days before the start of your scheduled class.  If you cancel 14 days before the start of your scheduled class, then you will receive a 50% refund of class fees and if you cancel less than 14 days of your scheduled class, regrettably we cannot reimburse your class fee. All cancellation reimbursements will be minus any textbooks and shipping fees.
